Why Famous: German born Dutch Jewish national Anne Frank aged 13 and her family went into hiding in Amsterdam to escape Jewish persecutions under Nazi occupation in 1942. Betrayed two years later they were sent to concentration camps where Anne died. Anne's diary from June 1942 to August 1994 is regarded as the most famous personal account of the Holocaust and has been turned into a play and film.
